Why Cardi B Is More Than ‘Up’ to the Challenge of Hosting the 2021 AMAs

Cardi B is no stranger to awards shows, but at the 2021 American Music Awards later this month, she’ll be in a brand-new role: host.

On the latest Billboard Pop Shop Podcast, we talk about why the hip-hop superstar — who is also a three-time nominee at the awards show — makes so much sense as host. She’s had smaller roles in Hollywood projects like Hustlers and F9, but when it comes to emceeing, the only experience Cardi has so far is guest-hosting The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and interviewing Bernie Sanders leading up to the 2020 presidential election. So will the infectious personality we see every time she goes live on Instagram or gives an interview come through on the AMA stage? We’ll have to wait until Nov. 21 to find out.

Also on the show, we’ve got chart news on how Lana Del Rey and Elton John both notch their latest top 10 albums on the Billboard 200, how an old album from The Rolling Stones and a new album from Duran Duran both hit the top 40 on the chart, and how Adele’s “Easy on Me” holds firm at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, while Doja Cat lands her fourth top 10 with “Need to Know.” Plus, we have news about Ed Sheeran being out of COVID quarantine and ready to perform on Saturday Night Live this weekend.
