Future Ties Drake & The Temptations’ No. 1 Record on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart

Future matches one of the biggest records on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart as The Real Me debuts at No. 1 on the chart dated July 25. With the entry, the rap superstar claims his 17th No. 1 title, tying Drake and The Temptations for the most among all artists since the ranking launched in 1965.

The Real Me arrives with 131,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States for the July 10-16 tracking week, according to Luminate. Streaming activity contributed the most action, at 118,000 units, with 13,000 traditional album sales and a negligible number of track-equivalent sales. (One unit equals the following levels of consumption: one album sale, 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 1,000 paid/subscription tier or 2,500 ad-supported tier of official on-demand audio and video streams for a song on the album.)

Thanks to a 17th No. 1, Future captures his share of the first-place prize. The Temptations took the honor as the act with the most No. 1s on the chart with the group’s third leader, Gettin’ Ready, in July 1966. The Temptations stood alone for nearly 40 years, extending its record with each subsequent leader until the group’s latest, A Song for You, in May 1975. Drake equaled the group’s count with his ICEMAN album, which debuted at the summit in May; he first ruled with 2010’s Thank Me Later.

As The Real Me secures Future’s latest chart triumph, here’s a review of his No. 1 collection. All of his efforts ruled for one week, except Future Hndrxx Presents: The Wizrd (two weeks at No. 1), I Never Liked You (three), We Don’t Trust You (eight) and Mixtape Pluto (three).

In addition to its debut, The Real Me sends 21 songs onto the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, led by three top 10s: “California Girls” (No. 5), “Fukk a Interview” (No. 8) and “Konnichiwa” (No. 9). Through that trio, Future ascends to 50 top 10s on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, making him the fifth artist to achieve the milestone. He joins Drake, who leads the pack with 153 top 10s, James Brown (57), Lil Wayne (53) and Aretha Franklin (52).
