Nettwerk Music Group has a rich history working with acts from the lands Down Under. Now, the independent Canadian company gets a foothold in the region with the appointment of Dan Medland to represent Nettwerk in Australia and New Zealand.
A veteran artist manager with more than two decades’ experience in the music industry, including more than eight years with IE Music, Medland heads up the Australasian strategies for Nettwerk’s roster, including domestic and global artists. Also, he’ll be an active contributor to the A&R team and signing efforts.
“I am extremely honored to be given such a wonderful opportunity in an incredible market,” comments Medland in a statement. “Nettwerk has been a decade-long partner on a global basis for myself and a number of clients and has incredible energy, diversity, and data-driven analysis like very few others in their field. I feel this is a company set up and ready to work hand in hand with incredible talent to deliver successful long-term partnerships in a very exciting time for the industry”.
Medland initially partnered with Nettwerk through British recording artist Passenger (aka Mike Rosenberg), whom he continues to manage.
As a global business, Nettwerk Records has signed a long list of artists from these parts, including Xavier Rudd, Angus & Julia Stone, John Butler Trio, Boy & Bear, Hermitude, Jack River, Mallrat, LEISURE, The Veils, Harrison Storm, Jaguar Jonze and Cub Sport.
With Medland heading-up ANZ, Nettwerk will hope to “expand our business in such an important and expansive market,” reads a company statement.
In welcoming Medland to the role, Nettwerk president and COO Simon Mortimer-Lamb says, “Dan’s rich background in managing artists globally amidst a diverse and ever-changing industry will be instrumental in continuing Nettwerk’s growth story in Australia and New Zealand.”
Based in Sydney, Medland will continue to work alongside the digital and label services agency Come With Fries.
Founded in 1984 by Terry McBride, Mark Jowett, Ric Arboit and Dan Fraser, the indie empire today houses a record label operation, in addition to a music publisher, an artist management arm, and a TV and film sync unit.
