Lady A announced the upcoming release of their new album, What a Song Can Do (Chapter One), on Wednesday (June 3). The seven-song collection is due out on June 25 and will feature their current single, “Like a Lady.”
“With every track on this collection, we strived to share a little bit more of who we are and what we’ve taken from this last year,” wrote members Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood in an Instagram post featuring the album’s cover and track list.
“It’s where we are at this moment – all living in the now, together.” A new single, “Things He Handed Down,” is due out this Friday (June 11). The other songs on the album are “Like a Lady,” “Talk of This Town,” the title track, “Fire,” “Chance of Rain” and “Worship What I Hate.”
What a Song Can Do is the trio’s first full-length release since their eighth album, 2019’s Ocean, which was issued under their original name, Lady Antebellum. In the wake of the 2020 George Floyd racial justice protests, the group announced that they were shortening their name to Lady A, which resulted in a public battle with a veteran Black Seattle singer who has performed as Lady A for more than two decades.
The upcoming collection — produced by Dan Huff — is the first one released under the Lady A name. All three members contributed to the songwriting of each track, with fellow country stars Thomas Rhett and Ryan Hurd also earning songwriting credits on “Things He Handed Down” and the title track, respectively.
The group will hit the road on the Lady A: What a Song Can Do amphitheater tour beginning on July 29 with a show at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn.
