Martha Reeves and The Vandellas recorded such super soul hits as Jimmy Mack, Heat Wave, Dancing In The Streets, and Quicksand.

Starting in 1957 and into the 60’s these girls recorded for Motown and had stunning success. Are they forgotten today?

She was discovered by James Brown while working as an usherette at the Apollo. Doris Troy. Another great Lady Soul. This song was co written by Doris Troy (using the name Doris Payne). It was covered by Linda Ronstadt, The Hollies, Ann Murray, a group called Faith Hope and Charity, Just One Look was recorded by Martha and The Vandellas on their Heat Wave album! It was also featured in a 1991 Super Bowl Pepsi ad starring Cindy Crawford. Ms Troy sang backup on Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon, Carly Simon’s You’re So Vain, and for The Rolling Stones.

Dick Clark did a super job of promoting many kinds of music on his show American Bandstand.
